Pant will need about 6 weeks to recover from his foot injury and the Asia Cup will begin on September 9.

Rishabh Pant has provided an update. After being ruled out of the India vs England Test series owing to a foot injury, the wicketkeeper batter has shared that he’ll start his rehabilitation once his fracture completely heals.

Pant had hurt himself while batting on the first day of the Manchester Test. While attempting a reverse sweep, the ball took an edge from Pant’s bat and smashed into his right foot. The Indian Test vice-captain had to be wheeled out and didn’t wicket-keep for the remainder of the match.

However, when India needed his service on the second day, Pant limped out on one leg. Not only did he complete his half-century after being stuck on 37, but he also ensured India crossed the 350-run mark. His contribution helped India draw the fourth match and stay alive in the series.

Pant needed crutches to walk, but was adamant about batting. And if need be, he would have come out in the second innings as well. It’s expected that he’ll need about one and a half months to recover. Pant can’t contribute any further, and Dhruv Jurel will take over the wicketkeeping duties for the last match.

“Appreciate all the love and good wishes coming my way. It’s been a real source of strength. I will begin rehab once my fracture heals and I am slowly settling into the process. Staying patient, following the routines, and giving it my 100%. Playing for the country has always been the proudest moment of my life. Can’t wait to be back doing what I love,” Pant wrote on his social media.

Asia Cup, perfect for a comeback

But Pant would already have his eyes set on his comeback. We still have no updates regarding the India vs Sri Lanka series going ahead, but he’ll miss the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 now. However, if he recovers in 6 weeks, he might just get a chance to play in the Asia Cup 2025.

Although Pant has been out of the T20 setup, primarily to manage his workload, he could return. Sanju Samson has struggled of late. This keeps the door open for his return. Given his mastery of playing spin, he might thrive in the UAE, and the Asia Cup could be where he makes his comeback.
