In what is a good sign for India cricket team ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, Rinku Singh slammed a century on Thursday to guide Meerut Mavericks to a win against Gaur Gorakhpur Lions in UPT20 2025. The KKR star, who had a rather sub-par IPL 2025 season, has been named in the main squad for the 8-nation tournament that commences from September 9 onwards. While Rinku has strengthened his case for a spot in the playing XI with his knock in UPT20, it will be tough for him to find a spot, given the star-studded line-up that India has.
Good news for India before Asia Cup ft. Rinku Singh
Coming out to bat at number 5 in the run-chase, Rinku smashed 108 runs off just 48 deliveries to take his team across the line with ease. His whirlwind knock was studded with seven fours and 8 sixes as the batter boasted of a strike rate of 225. Rinku stayed unbeaten at the end of the run-chase, helping his team finish the game with 1.1 overs to spare.
Rinku’s knock on Thursday meant he had finally broken free from the shackles of poor form. In IPL 2025. he managed to score just 206 runs from 13 games, averaging 29.42. Through the course of the tournament, he only managed to hit 10 sixes.
Will Rinku find a spot in India’s XI?
While Rinku finding his golden touch once again is good news for him, he is surely not an automatic pick in India’s playing XI. The middle-order is already cramped and the UP batter has very little chance of making it to the line-up. While it is all but confirmed that the top three could be Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, the number four and five are more or less confirmed too. At 4 will be India captain Surya Kumar Yadav followed by Sanju Samson at 5 and Hardik Pandya or Axar Patel at 6.
