In the current cricketing world, there is no doubt that fielding has improved significantly across all teams in the international circuit. However, there are a few standout names leading from the front.
At present, New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips often seems to defy gravity, flying like Superman to take stunning catches. On the other hand, India’s Ravindra Jadeja is known for his sharp fielding skills, making it incredibly difficult for batters to sneak a run past him.
This is exactly what New Zealand’s white-ball captain Mitchell Santner observed in a recently released video by the ICC. When asked about the best fielder right now, Santner interestingly didn’t settle for just one name. Instead, he divided his response into two parts — selecting Glenn Phillips for his brilliance in the outfield and picking Indian superstar Ravindra Jadeja for his exceptional skills as a close-in fielder with a powerful throwing arm.
Glenn Phillips feels the same
Phillips also featured in the video, and he gave full marks to his captain’s thoughts since he also feels that the number of times Jadeja came out on top while fielding is incredible. In the video, Jadeja was seen enjoying Santner’s comments on mobile. He laughed and cheekily said, “I have a strong arm.”
All eyes on Champions Trophy final
Not much time is left, and what’s currently building is the anticipation of how the IND vs NZ Champions Trophy final is going to be. There are several key battles people are expecting, how Virat Kohli plays against the New Zealand spinners, Rohit Sharma’s intent, and how India’s bowlers handle in-form players like Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson. It will be highly interesting to see how things unfold.
