Ravindra Jadeja emerges as India's Mr. Consistent against England, scores 5th fifty of the series

Jadeja has scored 5 fifties and 1 century in 10 innings. No one batting at number 6 or lower in England has more fifty-plus scores in a Test series.

Ravindra Jadeja continues to beat Father Time. His peers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from Test cricket after poor returns. And here it is, churning out runs in bucketloads. Seen as a bowling all-rounder for most of his career, at the fag end, Jadeja has transformed himself into a proper batter.

With his 5th fifty of the England tour, and one hundred as well, Jadeja has become the first ever Indian batter to score 500 runs in a Test series while batting at number 6 or below. This includes performances both home and away.

Most runs for India at No. 6 or lower in a Test series

  • 516 – Ravindra Jadeja vs England, 2025 (Away)
  • 474 – VVS Laxman vs West Indies, 2002 (Away)
  • 374 – Ravi Shastri vs England, 1984/85 (Home)
  • 350 – Rishabh Pant vs Australia, 2018/19 (Away)

Whether it’s been tough or easy, Jadeja has scored runs. The only time the all-rounder hasn’t scored a fifty in a match on the England tour was in Leeds. But even there, he was unbeaten at 25 in the second innings. At Edgbaston and Lord’s, Jadeja scored twin fifties.

At Old Trafford, he scored an unbeaten hundred in the second innings. And now, in the last Test of the tour, he’s scored yet another half-century. Once again, it’s a second innings. Generally, batters struggle in the second outing. The pitch gets much more difficult to bat on, but Jadeja has continued to thrive.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Akash Deep had set the platform. Coming into the middle at 229/5, Jadeja’s job was to ensure that there wasn’t a collapse. His solid defence has kept him in the game throughout the tour. But considering the circumstances, Jadeja went on the offensive.

Most 50+ scores at No. 6 or lowest in a Test series in England

  • 6 – Ravindra Jadeja, 2025 (10 innings)
  • 5– Garry Sobers, 1966 (8 innings)
  • 4– Jeff Dujon, 1988 (5 innings)
  • 4– Tom Blundell, 2022 (6 innings)
