Pakistan will have to battle out it for a respectable finish in the upcoming Women’s World Cup next month. The Women in Green have a torrid record in the main event, having achieved a finish as high as 6th. However with the tournament played in favourable conditions, Pakistan will hope to pull off a few upsets and make a mark at the World stage.
Led by Fatima Sana, Pakistan are eyeing to end their dreadful run. They have participated in 5 World Cups, finishing winless on three occasions. They arrive at the 2025 edition having gone unbeaten in the qualifiers, and will be hoping for a respectable mid-table finish.
InsideSport ranks the Pakistan squad for the Women’s World Cup 2025.
Batting: Mix of youth and experience but consistency an issue (Rating: 6.5/10)
Pakistan will rely on the experienced heads of Muneeba Ali Siddiqui and Sidra Amin to carry their batting order. Muneeba scored a century in the World Cup qualifiers and will hold key to Pakistan’s chances against quality opposition. The likes of Eyman Fatima, Sadaf Shamas, and Shawaal Zulfiqar are featuring in their maiden World Cup and will hope to impress.
A major challenge for Pakistan is their inconsistency. The Women in Green are prone to collapses, often succumbing to pressure. With higher scores being a norm, Pakistan’s lack of a designated quick run scorer limits their potential for big scores.
All-rounders: Captain Fatima key (Rating: 8/10)
Pakistan’s chances in the tournament mainly rest on captain Fatima Sana. The mercurial all-rounder will have to lead from the front with both bat and ball in the World Cup. Sana can rely on support from Aliya Riaz and Omaima Sohail, adding much needed firepower and batting depth. The trio add balance to the side and is perhaps their strongest suit.
Bowlers: Strong spin core to complement Diana Baig (Rating: 7.5/10)
Diana Baig is the spearhead of the pace attack and will be tasked with taking wickets with the new ball. The veteran has the company of young Natalia Parvaiz is also a promising fast-bowling option. Pakistan however lack raw pace and could be predictable against quality opposition.
Spin however will be key in the subcontinent. The likes of Nashra Sundhu and Sadia Iqbal alongside Fatima Sana will bowl bulk of the overs and aim to contain the opposition.
