Quinton de Kock missed out on his second century of this India tour but smashed 46-ball 90 to dominate Indian bowlers.

27 innings, 1047 runs, four centuries, five fifties: Quinton De Kock against India in India is a white-ball monster. And that run has continued in his second innings following a U-turn from retirement. He smashed a 46-ball 90, although missing out on a well-deserved century, putting IPL teams on notice ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. On this tour, the former South Africa captain already has a century, and now this 90 to extend his golden run in India after being released by Kolkata Knight Riders.

On Thursday, South Africa’s top order looked shaky once again, barring Quinton de Kock. As Reeza Hendricks was struggling and then Aiden Markram, De Kock blazed through India’s bowling attack. He smashed seven sixes and five fours in the IND vs SA 2nd T20I in Mullanpur, striking at 195.65. It was an unfortunate run-out and a great presence of mind by Jitesh Sharma that denied the 33-year-old a century.

Having already played for six IPL franchises since 2013, Quinton De Kock registered for the IPL 2026 Auction at the last moment, snubbing the Pakistan Super League. And despite an average season with KKR in 2025, there would be teams looking at him. With Delhi Capitals and KKR both looking for an opener, he could be in demand.

And with the IPL Auction on December 16, De Kock is ensuring that all teams take notice how well he plays in India. Making his debut against India in 2013, Quinton De Kock has 1914 runs, including eight centuries and seven half-centuries across three formats. In fact, his love affair began with a hat-trick of centuries in the ODIs. He has only extended that run. De Kock has the most fifty+ scores in T20Is against India with five, on par with Nicholas Pooran and Jos Buttler.

While he has a poor record in Test cricket vs India, in white-ball cricket, De Kock is a superstar. In ODIs, he has an average of 51.66 and in T20Is, he averages 49.81 in India. Against India, it’s sublime as well. In 12 ODI innings against India at their own backyard, De Kock has an average of 41.33 and three centuries in 12 innings. In the IND vs SA 3rd ODI, De Kock stood tall even as others faltered. De Kock scored an 89-ball 106, his seventh ODI ton against India.

In T20Is, he averages 56.42 with five fifties in just 9 innings. Even in IPL, he has shown glimpses of his supremacy. Not many overseas batters have managed to play well on Indian soil, but Quinton de Kock is one of the rare ones.
