Prithvi Shaw slammed a 72-ball century for Maharashtra against Chandigarh in the Round 2 match of Ranji Trophy 2025/26

Prithvi Shaw regained his form with class as he brought up his first double hundred for Maharashtra against Chandigarh on Monday. The opener, who moved to MAH from Mumbai before the Ranji Trophy 2025/26 season, was dismissed for a duck in the the first round match against Kerala following which he only managed to score 8 runs in the 1st innings of the game against Chandigarh. Shaw, who has fallen out of the favour of the national selectors and has been embroiled in controversies over the last year, will be hoping to create maximum impact in the ongoing season.

Shaw slams blazing double ton for Maharashtra

Prthivi took 141 deliveries to breach the 200-run mark, marking it as the second fastest double-century in the Ranji Trophy history. The record holder for the fastest century in the domestic tournament is Rishabh Pant who had taken just 48 deliveries to reach the milestone in the 2016/17 season. Shaw stayed unbeaten on 222 runs, having struck 29 fours and 5 sixes.

Fastest double hundreds in Ranji Trophy

After being dismissed for a duck against Kerala in the 1st innings of the Round 1 match, he scored a half-century in the 2nd innings to make up for his lapse. Shaw’s hundred against Chandigarh marks his first in 20 months.

Prithvi Shaw sought a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (NOC) and joined state rivals Maharashtra earlier this year. His case i an intriguing one, as Shaw rose to the scene with immense hype after he took India to a famous Under-19 ODI World Cup win in 2018. However, unlike Shubman Gill, Abhishek Sharma and Riyan Parag, who were also part of that Under-19 team, Shaw’s international career never took off.
