Catch the list of players that Mumbai Indians (MI) could release ahead of IPL 2026 retention deadline.

Hardik Pandya’s second season as Mumbai Indians captain saw them make a marked improvement in IPL 2025. Having finished 10th the season before, the 5-time champions made it to the playoffs. MI were denied a spot in the final after a loss to Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2, in a rather successful season for the franchise. Their charge was led by Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah, their retained stars, proving value for money.

However, MI do have some chinks in their armour. The lack of a quality spinner has hurt them, while backup for Jasprit Bumrah is also very much sought. With a retention deadline presumably set for November 15, Mumbai Indians have a task at hand.

MI will have a large chunk of their budget spent on retentions, so how do they find the funds to make changes? Here, Insidesport. In looks at potential releases by MI ahead of the IPL 2026 Auction.

MI’s potential releases

  • AM Ghazanfar (Rs 4.8 crore):

Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar is the latest product in Afghanistan’s spin factory. Just 19, the mystery spinner has already featured in all three formats for Afghanistan. Ghazanfar was brought for big money but withdrew from IPL 2025 due to injury. His outing with the MI Emirates was also not productive in the ILT20, meaning Mumbai Indians could potentially cash in on him.

  • Lizaad Williams (Rs 75 Lakh)

Another no show for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. The South African pacer was replaced by Corbin Bosch after picking a injury. Bosch chipped in with valuable cameos with both bat and ball and is likely to be kept ahead of his Proteas teammate.

  • Deepak Chahar (Rs 9.25 crore)

Deepak Chahar became among bthe very few to switch from Chennai Super Kings to Mumbai Indians. However, the move has not worked out well for the India pacer. Chahar struggled with injuries and did not make any impact in MI’s run to the playoffs. He picked up 11 wickets in 14 games, conceding at over 9 runs an over. While 33-year-old is an asset to have, his price tag make him a costly punt to retain.

  • Bevon Jacobs (Rs 30 Lakh)

Bevon Jacobs did not play for Mumbai India but has since gone on to make his T20I debut. A lower order hitter, the Kiwi has not had the best of runs in T20s. He struck at under 100 in both CPL and ILT20, signaling there was still work to be done for the 23-year-old.
