Yashasvi Jaiswal is a rising star in Indian cricket known for his remarkable journey from humble beginnings to the international stage. Born on December 28, 2001, in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, Jaiswal’s early years were marked by struggles as he lived in a tent and sold panipuri to make ends meet while pursuing his cricketing dreams in Mumbai.

Jaiswal’s talent and determination caught the attention of coaches and selectors, leading to his entry into Mumbai’s cricketing circuit. He made waves in the domestic circuit with his exceptional performances, particularly in the 2019-2020 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he became the youngest player to score a double century in one-day cricket in India.

His exploits in domestic cricket earned him a spot in the Indian Under-19 team for the 2020 ICC Under-19 World Cup. With just 13 balls, he broke the previous record for the fastest fifty in IPL history in the 2023 edition.

Following his success at the Under-19 level, Jaiswal was signed by the Rajasthan Royals franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He made his IPL debut in 2020 and showcased glimpses of his talent with some impressive performances. He received the India cap on July 12, 2023 against the West Indies in a Test match.

Domestic career 

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s domestic cricket journey began in Mumbai, marked by resilience and talent. His breakthrough came in the 2019-2020 Vijay Hazare Trophy, where he became the youngest Indian cricketer to score a double century in one-day cricket. Known for his consistency, he continued to impress across formats. Jaiswal entered the Indian Premier League arena in 2020, representing Rajasthan Royals, who acquired him for 2.40 crores. He achieved his first century in 2023 against Mumbai Indians, although Rajasthan Royals faced defeat in the match. Another significant milestone for Jaiswal occurred on May 11, 2023, as he surpassed the record for the fastest IPL half-century, accomplishing the feat in just 13 balls during a match against Kolkata Knight Riders.

IPL Career 

Yashasvi Jaiswal was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs. 2.40 crore prior to the 2020 Indian Premier League. Yashasvi was retained by RR prior to the 15th season. His skill was evident in the fact that he was only one of the three players to be kept. Yashasvi had an outstanding strike rate in the 2021 season, scoring 249 runs off 168 balls in 10 games. That season he also hit his maiden fifty. He scored 258 runs in the 2022 season to continue his excellent form, and he was kept in reserve for the IPL 2023 auction. Yashasvi Jaiswal was retained by the Rajasthan franchise for Rs 4.00 Cr in the IPL 2024 Auction.

International career 

In June 2023, Jaiswal received his inaugural call-up to India’s Test cricket squad for the West Indies series. Debuting in the series’ first Test, he excelled by scoring 171 runs, earning the Player of the Match award and contributing significantly to India’s victory. His T20I debut came in August 2023 during the third match against West Indies, where he notched his first T20I half-century with an unbeaten 84 runs from 51 deliveries, forming a formidable opening partnership with Shubman Gill.

In January 2024, he was named in India’s squad for the 5-match Test series against England at home. In the series’ first test, he showcased his prowess with a brisk 80 runs off just 74 balls. Moving forward, he achieved his maiden double century in the series’ second match, scoring 209 runs from 290 balls in the first innings. This feat positioned him as the third youngest Indian batsman, following Sunil Gavaskar and Vinod Kambli, to achieve a double century in Test cricket.

Test Career 

In six matches played, Yashasvi Jaiswal has batted 11 times without being dismissed not out. During this period, he has accumulated a total of 637 runs, with a highest score of 209 runs. Jaiswal maintains an impressive batting average of 57.90. He has faced 1002 deliveries, registering a strike rate of 63.57. Among his notable achievements are two centuries and two half-centuries, alongside one instance of getting dismissed without scoring. His batting includes 74 boundaries and 13 sixes.

Jaiswal is still waiting for his first match in the ODI format. 

T20 International Career 

In a span of 17 matches, Yashasvi Jaiswal has taken to the crease 16 times, remaining not out once. Throughout these innings, he has accumulated a total of 502 runs, with a highest score of 100 runs. Born on December 28, 2001, in Suriyawan, Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, Jaiswal was the fourth child of Bhupendra Jaiswal, a small hardware store owner, and Kanchan Jaiswal, a homemaker.
