Sam Cook

Sam Cook, born August 4, 1997, in Chelmsford, Essex, is a 27-year-old English pace bowler known for his relentless accuracy and lateral movement. Playing for Essex, Cook has amassed 321 first-class wickets at an average under 20, making him one of the County Championship’s most effective seamers. His standout performances include a 10-wicket haul (10/73) against Nottinghamshire in 2024 with the Kookaburra ball, proving his versatility.

Cook debuted for Essex in 2017 against the West Indies, contributing to their County Championship title that year. He also won the Bob Willis Trophy (2020) and The Hundred (2022) with Trent Rockets, earning Player of the Match in the final. Despite his modest pace (around 80-82 mph), Cook’s skill with swing and seam earned him an England Test debut against Zimbabwe in May 2025 at Trent Bridge, where he bowled the first over, a rare honor for a debutant.

His England Lions performances, including 13 wickets in Australia (2025), bolstered his case. Cook, a Loughborough University graduate, is competing with Chris Woakes for a permanent spot, with his control and durability eyed for the 2025/26 Ashes. A Manchester United fan, he balances cricket with passions for DJing and his pet tortoise, Fred.
