Josh Tongue, born November 15, 1997, in Redditch, Worcestershire, is a 27-year-old English fast bowler known for his pace and bounce. A right-arm fast-medium bowler and lower-order right-handed batsman, Tongue plays for Nottinghamshire, having moved from Worcestershire in 2023. He made his First-Class debut in 2016 and List A debut in 2017 for Worcestershire.
His standout 2017 County Championship season, with 47 wickets, helped Worcestershire gain promotion and earned him an England Lions call-up. Tongue debuted for England in a Test against Ireland in June 2023, taking 5/66, and played in the Ashes, dismissing Steve Smith twice. Despite a promising start, injuries, including a 15-month shoulder issue requiring surgeries and Botox injections, and a pectoral injury, sidelined him for much of 2024.
He returned impressively in 2025, taking seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul, on his Nottinghamshire debut against Durham. Standing 6 ft 4 in, Tongue’s high-arm action generates awkward bounce, making him a potential multi-format bowler. His resilience and recent performances signal a strong case for an England recall, particularly for the 2025 Ashes.
