Sharjah is about to get busy again. From August 29 to September 7, the UAE will host a short but important T20I tri-series featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan and the home side. With the Asia Cup beginning just two days later, this week in Sharjah will be the last chance for all three teams to test combinations and see who can handle pressure under lights. It’s the perfect dress rehearsal before the ACC T20 Asia Cup begins in the UAE.
Afghanistan bring nearly their Asia Cup squad to Sharjah, with only Naveen-ul-Haq missing. His spot goes to young seamer Abdollah Ahmadzai. Spin remains their core strength, dominated by Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and up-and-comer AM Ghazanfar.
Pakistan have taken the bold route. Their 17-player roster, headed by Salman Ali Agha, excludes veterans Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, with Pakistan looking for a more aggressive approach. UAE are keen to make an impression on home turf. With credible wins in the past, they’ll look to cause upsets and carry that confidence into the bigger tournament.
