The Pakistan Army and Rangers will be deployed for the ICC Champions Trophy matches as a part of tight security measures. The marquee event, which marks the return of an ICC tournament to the country after decades, will commence from February 19 onwards. With ten days left for CT 2025, Pakistan is leaving no stones unturned to provide foolproof security for the tournament.
Pakistan Army, Rangers to be deployed for Champions Trophy
As per reports, permission for the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers has been obtained from the federal cabinet. The Pakistan Army will be deployed under Article 245 of the Constitution and the deployment will be under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997. Champions Trophy matches will be held in Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi. Meanwhile, India will play all their matches in Dubai.

Earlier, a report had stated that a total of 12,664 officers have been deployed for the tournament. Out of these, 7,618 officers will be stationed in Lahore, while 4,535 officers will manage security in Rawalpindi. Additionally, 411 officers from the Special Branch will enhance operational efficiency.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) came under fire recently for leaving preparations incomplete till the last-minute. The criticism was directed at the incomplete renovation works at the stadiums in Lahore and Karachi. However, Pakistan threw open the renovated Gaddafi stadium to the public in a grand opening ceremony on Friday. The next day, Pakistan took on New Zealand in the first game at the renovated venue. They were handed a 78-drubbing at the hands of the Kiwis in the first game of the Tri-Nation tournament.
