The India Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has been making the headlines. This comes after the Men in Blue won the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai. There were rumours that Rohit could hang up his boots, but that is not the case. Now former India cricketer Yograj Singh wants both Rohit and Virat Kohli to continue playing the ODI format till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
After lifting the silverware, Rohit Sharma addressed the rumors in the press conference. He clarified that he was not retiring from the 50-over format, like he did from T20Is after lifting the T20 World Cup in 2024. In fact, both Rohit and Kohli looked in great form in the tournament.
Rohit & Kohli to continue till 2027?
Virat Kohli was on his groove, though he faltered in the finals. On the other hand, Rohit, who was decent in the tournament, fired up in the finals. He slammed a fine knock of 76 runs and was adjudged the Man of the Match in the finals.
“The best thing is that Rohit Sharma said he is not retiring. Well done, my son. Nobody can retire Rohit and Virat. They should think about retirement after winning the 2027 ODI World Cup. I had said this before India would win,” Yograj told ANI.
But then in 2.5 years of time, Rohit will turn 40 while Kohli will be 39. Questions can be raised on their age and form. But given the fitness standards which these veterans have, they can easily pull it off.
“Right now, I am taking things as they come. It wouldn’t be fair for me to think too far ahead. At this moment, my focus is on playing well and maintaining the right mindset. I don’t want to draw any lines and say whether I will or won’t play in the 2027 World Cup. There’s no point in making such statements right now.” Rohit said on JioHotstar.
