The Mumbai Indians (MI) did a fantastic job even before the IPL 2026 retention deadline. They had a glaring gap in their finishing department last year, with Hardik Pandya and Naman Dhir asked to do heavy lifting. However, with the trade signings of Sherfane Rutherford and Shardul Thakur, MI addressed that issue. Also, Mayank Markande was signed as a backup spinner. All three players were already in and just Rs 4.70 crore were spent.
As far as their retention list goes, MI didn’t make significant surprising calls. However, the Will Jacks retention was up for debate, especially after signing Rutherford. However, MI have decided to retain him. The other retentions were obvious, with the likes of Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma forming the core of his strong team.
