The decision-makers at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will discuss the matter of retention for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction soon. Head coach Stephen Fleming, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and former skipper MS Dhoni will have a meeting to etch out CSK’s retention list.
Although the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t officially announced the date for the retention deadline, reports suggest that franchises will have to submit their squads by November 15. The IPL 2026 auction might take place between December 13 and 15.
Reports had come out suggesting that CSK will release five players: two foreign players (Sam Curran and Devon Conway) and three Indian players (Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, and Rahul Tripathi). If we include Ravichandran Ashwin, who has retired from IPL, CSK could enter free up to INR 24.70 crore before the IPL 2026 auction.
CSK to discuss retention list for IPL 2026 auction
But the franchise has denied these speculations. Now, a RevSportz report claims that CSK haven’t actually discussed the retention matter yet. Dhoni, Gaikwad, and Fleming will have a meeting.
But they won’t have the shot-calling power. N Srinivasan, who had taken over as chairman of Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (CSKCL) in September, will have the final say.
“See, we haven’t discussed it in-house yet,” a CSK official told RevSportz. “MS has just returned from the US. Fleming is in New Zealand, and the IPL hasn’t even given the date as regards the submission of the list of the retained players. Fleming, MS, and Ruturaj will have a meeting to draw up the list. Then it will be taken to Mr Srinivasan for his approval.”
Srinivasan doesn’t like to chop and change, which would mean that the CSK coaching staff won’t change for the IPL 2026 season.
