On Tuesday, as the ACC members met in a meeting held in Dubai, attended by all the members, also in presence of BCCI’s Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar, an attempt was made to make Mohsin Naqvi hand over the Asia Cup trophy to the winning team. But as per a report in the Times of India, that of course did not happen.
PCB & BCCI at Loggerheads
The report suggests that the ACC chief Naqvi did not even acknowledge India’s win, until Shelar brought up the topic. “There was no intention to resolve any matter from PCB and ACC Chair Naqvi. He had all the time to talk about everything under the sun, but didn’t acknowledge India winning. It was very strange to see how he conducted himself in the meeting,” said an official.
Mohsin Naqvi Refuses to Budge
Now, it is already established that the BCCI is going to lodge a protest during ICC meet this year. And the matter does not seem to come to a close. “He kept beating around the bush. Shelar put his foot down and asked him to send the trophy and medals to the ACC office, and BCCI will themselves arrange the logistics of getting it back to India. Imagine, he didn’t even agree to that. Naqvi was informed about the BCCI’s intention to lodge a protest with ICC too, since it’s a tournament approved by the ICC,” added the official.
On the other hand, it was reported in Pakistani media (GeoTV), that Naqvi set forth a condition. He wanted the winning skipper, Suryakumar Yadav in this case, to come to the ACC office, and collect it personally. In fact, the Pakistani went on to say, that the trophy and the medals for the Asia Cup, were not even on the agenda.
