Veteran India cricket team pacer Mohammed Shami is likely to be traded from Sunrisers Hyderabad before IPL 2026. The West Bengal pacer, who was bought for Rs 10 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, managed to take 6 wickets from 9 matches. Subsequently, he was left out of the Indian Test team and the white-ball formats as well. Now, a report has claimed that there are multiple franchises who are interested to procure the services of Shami ahead of IPL 2026.
DC and LSG show interest in Shami
As per Cricbuzz, SRH are considering their best option given that there are multiple teams interested in a trade deal involving Shami ahead of IPL 2026. As per the report, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) are the two teams who have shown interest in the pacer at present. The report claims that while Shami could be released to the auction pool, a one-way trade deal, which would mean an all-cash deal, is likely to take place for the pacer.
Both LSG and DC could put Shami to good use, should they manage a trade deal with SRH. Rishabh Pant and co. are most vulnerable when it comes to their pace unit, given the injury concerns that their bowlers have in the form of Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan. Additionally, they lack an experienced Indian bowler who can spearhead their pace department.
DC, on the other hand, have no experienced Indian pacer either and are completely reliant on overseas pacers like Mitchell Starc and Mustafizur Rahman. Shami’s presence in either of the sides in IPL 2026 will ensure that the team has a strong Indian pacer who can lead the bowling unit.
Shami returned to international cricket earlier this year in January after spending over a year on the sidelines, primarily due to an ankle injury. His performance in the IPL was severly criticised, due to his lack of consistency in terms of pace and length. He was eventually left out of the squad for the IND vs ENG series and subsequently wasn’t considrerd for the series against WI or SA either.
