Mitchell Starc went on to pick 31 wickets in 5 Ashes Tests, and also scored two fifties, that took Australia to 4-1 win.

Australia pacer Mitchell Starc was named as the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for Dec 2025, as he led the team’s pace attack, and was instrumental in taking them to 4-1 Ashes win over England recently. Also in fray were West Indies’ Justin Greaves and New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy, but the 35-year-old Starc inched ahead.

Starc Gets ICC Honour

In fact, in the five match series, he went on to pick a massive 31 wickets, in the absence of Pat Cummins, who could not play due to an injury. He contributed with the bat as well, scoring 77 and 54 in the Brisbane and Adelaide Tests.

“It’s an honour to be named the ICC Player of the Month, and even more special that it came on the back of such a successful home Ashes. To have played a part in winning such an iconic series in front of our home crowd is something we will all relish for a long time,” Starc said.

“As a team we’ve had some outstanding performances in the last few years. The focus now is on building that momentum towards a place in next year’s ICC World Test Championship Final,” he added. Meanwhile, it is only after two years that any Australian has won this accolade.

First Aussie After Pat Cummins

As far as Starc’s overall career is concerned, he has picked up 433 wickets in 105 Tests, at an average of 26.51. In batting, he has scored 2478 runs at an average of 20, including 13 fifties. The last time any Aussie won the Player of the Month was Pat Cummins, way back in December 2023.
