You feel that you cannot dwell into a game like this much. We should have chased the score. But the pressure kept building on us. Temba and Bosch had a brilliant partnership in the morning and it hurt us. There was help on the wicket. A score like 120 was going to be tough on this wicket. But we should have chased it down. The match has just finished, we have not thought about what to do in the next match. But we will come back stronger.

Temba Bavuma - Captain Fantastic as South Africa beat India in Tests in India after 15 years. 

South Africa cannot lose this Test series now as they complete a famous defence at Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the entire Protea unit is cock-a-hoop. 

What an over. Match shifted from SA to IND to now back to South Africa. 

• - Keshav Maharaj bowled a full‑length delivery that Axar Patel smashed straight over long‑on for a massive six.
• - The next ball was a flatter, outside‑off line that Patel tried to chop toward the off‑side sweeper, but Bumrah cut off the run.
• - On the third delivery Maharaj tossed a slightly wider, good‑length ball; Patel launched a slog sweep and sent it soaring over the ropes for another six.
• - The fourth ball was a well‑placed “slot” delivery; Patel dropped to his knee and flicked it past deep mid‑wicket for four, beating the fielder.
• - The fifth ball came in the same zone, and Patel again connected cleanly, sending the ball over the boundary for yet another six.
• - The sixth delivery was a full toss that Patel could not resist; he pulled it high and the deep fielder took a clean catch, dismissing him.

And it was just about time for another wicket and Kuldeep Yadav is trapped in front. Simon Harmer with his fourth and Kuldeep goes after wasting a review as well. Jasprit Bumrah comes but Axar Patel would really look to hit big now. He doens't have much to lose.

💔 Oh no! Washington Sundar has been dismissed

And there you have it. Washington Sundar, who was looking composed and like a warrior for India, has gone now. A superb move by Bavuma to bring in Aiden Markram and the offie gets Sundar. 

• Markram bowls it full, drawing Sundar forward
• Ball turns sharply 
• Harmer takes a splendid catch as Markram's golden arm does the trick
• Axar Patel-Kuldeep Yadav on the crease now
• IND need 49 runs with just 3 wickets in hand. 

Another one bites the dust. Simon Harmer gets the left hander to no one's surprise. 

Harmer’s arm‑ball drifted in, hit Ravindra Jadeja’s front pad clean in line, and the ball‑tracker showed three reds—wicket confirmed.

Jadeja’s “T” signal and that stunned look said it all; India slip to 5 down as South Africa seize the momentum. 

Axar Patel comes in with a positive intent as Washington Sundar wages a lone battle. 

Two lefties on the crease as Sundar and Jadeja hope to build a partnership here. With only Axar Patel, a capable batter, on the bench now, this is the most important stand. 

Washington has been great in his application; Jadeja looks confident too. Playing out Harmer would be the toughest. The offie is enjoying a great time. 

IND 54/4 after 24 overs. IND need 70 runs. 

• All the hopes were pinned on Rishabh Pant but the southpaw was overawed and looked in massive trouble. Guess what? This was very unlike Pant, who gets out to a juicy half volley. 
• Simon Harmer was causing all kinds of trouble with his bounce and turn. But Pant handed a simple catch to Harmer, leaving India reeling at 38/4. A herculean task with 86 runs still to go.  

Dhruv Jurel would be gutted.

Dhruv Jurel fell for 13 (3×4) after a long hop from Simon Harmer. The batter pulled a brash shot straight to the deep leg‑side fielder, ending a 34‑ball stay. The crowd fell silent as the spinner claimed the first wicket of the day.

Harmer switched to over‑the‑wicket, delivering a loose ball that Jurel tried to pull high, a risky choice with a man in the deep. Unfortunately, the ball hit the toe end of the bat as Jurel played the shot too early. It could've been a career-defining innings for Jurel had he remained unbeaten. 

• IND (38/3) after 18 overs. IND need 86 more runs to win. 

🚨 Important Note: South Africa didn't start with Marco Jansen after the lunch break. He was quite brilliant in the first session but fans were left stunned as to why Bosch over Jansen? 

But it is important to note that Jansen is in the dressing room currently. While he is fit, and will come sooner rather than later.  

• IND (33/2) after 15 overs. IND need 91 runs.

Undoubtedly the most important session of the Test starts. 

South Africa would be eyeing making further inroads as Dhruv Jurel and Washington Sundar enter the crease.

• A terrific session for South Africa, who will fancy their chances of winning this encounter. After dominating play and a nearly flawless session, a motivated Protea unit exits the pitch for Lunch. Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel are hanging with India effectively being 10/3 as Gill is already ruled out of the Test.
• India set a target of 124 after South Africa crossed 150 thanks to Bavuma's undefeated 55*. Jansen dismissed both Indian openers, Rahul (1) and Jaiswal (0), in the twenty-five minutes prior to lunch, giving South Africa the upper hand.

India go 1/2. Technically it is 1/3 as Shubman Gill is already ruled out of this Test match. 

Marco Jansen has his tail up as the tall man now sends back KL Rahul, who is stunned by the extra bounce here in Kolkata. 

"Perhaps Rahul could've left it," chirps Sunil Gavaskar on air as Jansen bounces Rahul out. It was at awkward chest height, with the pacer coming round the wicket to Rahul. Dhruv Jurel is the new batter in and he starts with a four.

Marco Jansen catches Jaiswal stuck on the crease as a faint edge is caught by the keeper behind and SA have their tail up. It is Simon Harmer from the other end as the Proteas go all out attack. 

On this pitch, chasing 124 would be not easy at all. A tough 20 mins here for India before Lunch. They can't afford to lose another one! 

India's chase begin as Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul enter the crease. Marco Jansen takes the new ball and lands one outside off. Jaiswal tries to cut but misses. 

A great opening stand here would leave SA in the doldrums!

2 overs from Siraj – and the fiery pacer gets 2/2 to bundle the South African innings. 

India need 124 runs to win the 1st Test in Kolkata as South Africa get all out for 153. 

Siraj gets Simon Harmer and Keshav Maharaj in a space of 4 balls and the entire Eden Gardens is elated. Temba Bavuma wages a lone battle and gets stranded on 55, an innings from that could be the best lesson for the Indian batters. 

The Proteas captain scores the first 50 of the innings and his first in India! A knock that is equivalent to a century on this tricky Kolkata pitch. He is keeping South Africa ahead in the game single-handedly. 

• After 51 overs, SA (148/8) with a 118-run lead

And there India have it. A much-needed wicket for India as Jasprit Bumrah ends the 44-run partnership between Bosch and Bavuma. 

• Bumrah fires one onto the length and the ball keeps a tad low, darting inwards to hit the timber. 
• Corbin Bosch heads back after making a great 37-ball 25.

India would've hoped to get a target of under 100 but South Africa have already reached to a lead of 100 runs! Corbin Bosch hit a mighty six off Kuldeep Yadav to get to that, as Jasprit Bumrah is back too. 

• After 46 overs, SA (131/7) with a 101-run lead. 

India burns a review as Jadeja bowls to Bavuma, zero run, big LBW shout.

Ravindra Jadeja delivers over‑the‑wicket, ball pitches outside leg. But Rishabh Pant was quick to review...and now quick to regret.

Review shows it hit the back‑thigh, UltraEdge silent, ball‑track confirms outside leg; umpire Gaffaney’s call stands. India only have 1 review left as compared to South Africa's 3. 

Now, Pant has brought in Kuldeep Yadav from the other end. 

After 42 overs, SA (117/7) with a 87-run lead. 

Both Bavuma and Bosch have looked solid in the first few overs of the morning. No massive sign of significant turn so far as the Indian spinners try to bowl a bit slower to find the turn. 

- South Africa's lead now crosses 75-run mark. India need to take 3 remaining wickets quickly.

So it is Axar Patel to start the proceedings for India on Day 3. He needs to be more disciplined here, as Temba Bavuma and Corbin Bosch would be feeling the nerves today. A jam-packed Eden Gardens is expected yet again today, with a result imminent.
