India vs New Zealand 4th T20I: No party in Vishakhapatnam as Kiwis run away with 50-run win

After getting battered in the first three T20Is, New Zealand have pulled one back. They win in Vishakhapatnam by 50 runs as Jacob Duffy removes Kuldeep Yadav to bowl India out for 165. India suffered early blows with Abhishek Sharma falling for a duck. Suryakumar Yadav also fell in the 2nd over. While Rinku Singh and Sanju Samson held the fort for a little while, they too could not offer hope. However, Shivam Dube kept India in the hunt with a 23-ball 65 but his unfortunate run-out meant it was game over India.

Mitchell Santner bags his third wicket as India lose Jasprit Bumrah. India are 162/9 and it's only a formality for the Kiwis now.

And, it's Arshdeep Singh who falls for a duck again as India lose their 8th wicket, trying to pull an Ish Sodhi delivery.

India have lost Harshit Rana as he tried to go against a delivery that was turning away. He gave away a leading edge for an easy catch to Rachin Ravindra. India are 157/7 in 16.3.

What a sad way to get out. India have lost Shivam Dube and probably also the game. Harshit Rana hit Matt Henry hard but directly to his hand. The ball deflects off his hand and hits the stump. Dube was outside the crease and he is run out.

Shivam Dube is keeping India's hopes alive. After a quiet over, he takes on Matt Henry for a six on the long on. Daryl Mitchell gets injured trying to take the catch.

15-ball fifty for Dube. It's been an entertaining knock. 6 sixes and 2 fours. He's kept India in the chase, only if slightly. 

He wouldn't have scored a fifty but Harshit Rana adviced him to go for a review after being adjudged LBW and it turned out he'd edged it.

Shivam Dube sees Ish Sodhi and his eyes light up. He smashes the leggie for 5 boundaries in the 12th over, 2 fours and 3 sixes. 29 comes off the over.

Rinku Singh has failed to make it count. He received a rare opportunity to bat at number 4 and ended up playing a unimpressive 39-run knock.It was the perfect time show that isn't just a finisher.

He did fine against pacer, 22 off 13 but couldn't get goign against spinners.

Rinku Singh has scored just 17 runs from 17 balls against spinners.

6 off 7 against Ish Sodhi, 5 off 5 against Mitchell Santner and 6 off 5 against Glenn Phillips.

Beautiful delivery from Mitchell Santner. A flighted delivery outside off that Hardik Pandya has no idea about. He looks to hit it over covers but edges it to backward point. India in big trouble.

Mitchell Santner has cleaned Sanju Samson up with a straight delivery. He has struggled against straight deliveries and this was no different. As he was trying to play on the backfoot, he exposed his stumps. He missed the ball and it was goodnight, Samson. India 56/3.

India have managed 53/2 with Rinku Singh and Sanju Samson taking charge. India lost Abhishek Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav in the first two overs but it did not matter much.

After a gloomy start, Rink Singh is taking charge. He has hit Zakary Foulkes for two consecutive sixes to make the 4th over a 14-run one.

India are in trouble as another in-form batter Suryakumar Yadav falls cheaply. After surviving a similar chance against Matt Henry in the previous over, he gave away a catch to Jacob Duffy on the follow-through and this time, he was not lucky. India are 9/2 in 2.

It's a golden duck for Abhishek Sharma after Sanju got one in the last match. Abhishek tried to go after Matt Henry on the first ball but had no timing. Devon Conway took a brilliant catch, rushing in. This is Abhishek's second golden duck of the series. India 0/1.

India need 216 runs to win with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson beginning the chase. All eyes are on Samson, who has so far scored 10, 6 and 0 in the last three innings. Silencing Abhishek will be key for New Zealand to win the match.

Daryl Mitchell has played an excellent cameo of 39 off 18 as New Zealand post 215/7 in 20 overs. The stage was set by Tim Seifert (62) and Devon Conway (44) with a 100-run opening stand. While New Zealand kept losing wickets in the middle overs, Mitchell finished things off well to give the Kiwis a competitive total.

Harshit Rana will bowl the last over. He has been expensive with 40 runs coming in his three overs already. Can he contain New Zealand here?

Daryl Mitchell is on the charge as he needs to with just a few deliveries left in this innings. He goes after Jasprit Bumrah and smashes him for a six, although he could not time it properly. Bumrah ended up conceding 19 runs in the 19th over as New Zealand cross 200-run mark.

Rinku Singh takes his foruth catch of the match as New Zealand lose their 7th wicket for 182 with Zakary Foulkes falling.

Another great over from Jasprit Bumrah as he concedes just 5 in the 17th. He has maintained an economy of just 6.33 today. The key is Daryl Mitchell as New Zealand lose steam despite 100-run opening stand.

And out of nowhere, New Zealand have lost another wicket. Santner was answering a call from Daryl Mitchell and he had to dive but Hardik Pandya's direct hit left him just short of the crease. New Zealand are 6 down for 163.

Mitchell Santner has been in superb form with bat and he has gone after Ravi Bishnoi. The leggie ends his spell expensive spell with 1/49.

Ravi Bishnoi has a wicket in his last over and it's Mark Chapman who departs for 9. New Zealand have once again lost a wicket as Chapman tries to pull Bishnoi over the square leg. New Zealand 152/5.

Another in-form batter Daryl Mitchell has joined Mark Chapman in the middle. New Zealand have lost two set batters in quick succession and they need to get to 220+. Mitchell will be the key with Jasprit Bumrah still to bowl 2 overs and Arshdeep Singh to bowl 1 over. New Zealand 152/4 in 15 overs.

Just when it seemed Glenn Phillips had hammered another six, he fell short. Kuldeep delivers a crucial wicket as New Zealand lose their 4th wicket for 137. They lose two quick wickets again.

With the death overs approaching, New Zealand have Mark Chapman on the crease with Glenn Phillips. New Zealand need to score 220+ to have a chance against India. This is an excellent batting pitch.

Arshdeep Singh came as a bowling change in the 13th over and he delivered a wicket straightaway. It's Tim Seifert who departs after scoring 62 off 36 balls. He departs after trying to hit a short delivery outside off stump. He had no timing and Rinku Singh took a good catch.

After two quick wickets, the run rate has dipped a little but New Zealand are still scoring over 10 runs an over. Ravi Bishnoi has conceded 38 in 3 overs.

Halfway through and New Zealand have scored xx. In-form Glenn Phillips has joined Tim Seifert on the crease after losing Devon Conway for 44 and Rachin Ravindra cheaply. The platform is set for a 200+ total.

Rachin Ravindra continues his lean run in T20Is. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a slower delivery and Rachin Ravindra failed to judge that, giving away an easy catch on the follow-through. With that, New Zealand lose 2nd wicket for 103.

After 8.2 overs and a 100-run opening stand, India have their first wicket. And no Harshit Rana today as Kuldeep Yadav removes Devon Conway for 44 off 23 balls. New Zealand 100/1.

After Tim Seifert, Devon Conway is bossing India. He has targeted Ravi Bishnoi so far with 12 runs coming off it. New Zealand 94/0 after 8.

After scoring 24 and 12 in the last two games, Tim Seifert has scored his fourth half-century against India. He gets there in 25 deliveries, which is joint fastest by a Kiwi batter against India in T20Is.

Tim Seifert has dominated the powerplay for India as New Zealand post their highest score of this series in the first six overs with 71/0. Seifert is leading the charge with 21-ball 46.

Tim Seifert brings up a 50-run stand with Devon Conway for New Zealand's best opening stand so far in this series. He takes on Bumrah for a six to get to the milestone.

After four overs from Arshdeep and Harshit, Suryakumar Yadav has called in Jasprit Bumrah to bowl the 5th over.

Tim Seifert is not sparing anyone. He has already hit Harshit Rana for a four and a six in the 4th over to get to 37 off 15 balls. Devon Conway has only faced five deliveries so far, scoring just 2.

After a hat-trick of boundaries in the first over, Tim Seifert has smashed Harshit Rana for a six and a four to score 12 runs from the 2nd over.

Will Jasprit Bumrah be rested again today for Arshdeep Singh? He bowled 3/17 in the 3rd T20I, returning to form. With just 10 days to go for the T20 WC, will India risk him playing today or rest for Arshdeep Singh, who hasn't had many gametime? 

“Jasprit is the best bowler in the world, incredibly skilled, but ultimately, everyone needs someone to talk to, to lighten their burden. Whenever he steps onto the field, there’s immense pressure on him; he’s always expected to go out there and perform well, to deliver those magical spells, to win matches for us in the death overs. As a bowler or a player, sometimes that burden can become overwhelming,” said Morne Morkel, India's bowling coach.

The ACA-VDCA Stadium pitch is a batting-friendly belter with true bounce and even pace, ideal for aggressive strokeplay. It has produced high-scoring games, including a combined 400+ runs in the last T20I (India chased 209 vs Australia in 2023). Teams batting first can aim for 180+, but dew in the evening often favours chasing. Spinners may get some grip as the surface dries later. Overall, expect a high-scoring thriller with batters dominating.

With Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in top form, other batters haven't had a chance to bat in the last two games. Hence, whether India want to give Shreyas Iyer a go will depend on whether India want to rest Abhishek or Surya.

"Sanju is one knock away from getting his form back. We all know the cliche word that form is temporary and for us building up to the World Cup, it's important for the guys to find that peak performance at the right time. He's training well, he's hitting the ball very well, so I think it's just a matter of time for him to get a score on board," India's bowling coach Morne Morkel said. 

New Zealand, missing key players, have struggled with shaky batting and weak bowling, losing heavily in each outing. Devon Conway seems obsolete as a T20 batter and the sooner he is replaced the better. In the bowling, they haven’t found an answer to India’s batting brilliance. India scored 10 runs every over in the last game. Mitchell Santner’s men need a turnaround for confidence ahead of the T20 World Cup.

The ACA-VDCA pitch promises a high-scoring affair, favouring batters with true bounce and potential dew aiding chases. India’s aggressive template should thrive, potentially pushing for a 4-0 lead. It is the ground where 300 is possible and with Abhishek Sharma leading the charge, it could be true again. 

India enter the fourth T20I as overwhelming favourites, not because they are playing at home, but because they have been so dominant, especially with the bat. Suryakumar Yadav's side has displayed explosive batting, led by Abhishek Sharma's blistering form and Ishan Kishan's impactful cameos at No. 3 in place of the injured Tilak Varma.
