IND U-19 vs BAN U-19: Bangladesh lose 8 wickets for 40 runs, India pull off miraculous win

What a win! India has somehow snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. Bangladesh were cruising and then Indian spinners took 8 wickets for 40 runs. Vihaan, who took 4 wickets, jumped to his right on the boundary to claim a spectacular catch to win the match for India.

Bangladesh have lost 7 wickets for 38 runs. It's been comically poor by Bangladesh. But you have to credit India. They haven't dropped a chance, made sure Bangladesh pay for it.

Another one. Vaibhav Suryavanshi takes a spectacular catch at the boundary. He throw the ball in the air, crosses the boundary and grabs the ball again. Bangladesh have lost 4 wickets for 23 runs.

Another one. What are Bangladesh doing? A full toss from Khilan Patel and Md Azizul Hakim Tamim hits it straight to long-on. Bangladesh are now 1 run behind on DLS.

Vihaan Malhotra strikes again. Sheikh Paevez Jibon tries to smash him over long-on but can't clear the boundaries. Despite losing their 4th wicket, Bangladesh are still ahead of the DLS score by 4 runs.

Against the run of play, India have taken a wicket. Bangladesh won't be happy with Kalam Siddiki Aleen. They are so far ahead on DLS, by 6 runs, there was no need to play that shot.

Bangladesh are ahead by 14 runs as per the DLS par score of 88 in 20 overs. The only way India can win is by taking wickets. 

The match will resume soon. Instead of 239, Bangladesh will now need 165. The number of overs have been decreased from 49 to 29. That means, Bangladesh need 75 from 70 to win. 

The Indian team has started warming up. It suggests that the match will resume after the inspection. We'll have to see how many overs have been lost and what the revised target would be.

Reminder that the match has to resume by 9:40 PM IST.

The ground staff are trying to remove water through the supersopper and with sponges. There will be an inspection at 8:45 PM IST to decide whether the match will resume.

The covers have been removed but there are a few damp areas on the group. The match can't resume until they dry out.

The rain seems to have stopped but then the outfield is still wet. The ground staff is working towards getting the playing area ready.

A lucky break for Team India. Rain strikes again and it is quite strong. Bangladesh are 90/2 at the moment; we will start to lose overs again.

Mhatre takes a break and Khilan comes into the attack. Meanwhile, looks like Vaibhav Suryavanshi has picked up a cramp.

Skipper Mhatre comes to roll his arm over. A wicket needed at this juncture. India has managed to keep things tight.

Runs are coming at a rapid pace still. India need to curtail runs here. A wicket or two will only help.

India need a wicket desperately. Kanishk has been bowling well, and a chance was missed in his previous over. But there is no assistance from the wicket for now. And here comes a wicket. Rifat edges one and Kundu takes an excellent catch.

Bangladesh are ahead at the moment. 10 runs of the last over of the powerplay as Kanishk struggles. The pitch isn't offering much assistance to spinners anymore. We saw Bangladesh's two off-spinner trouble Indian batters but that just isn't the case now. 

India has given away just 9 runs in the last 3 overs, but the run rate's still 5.5. If India can't take wickets, they have to contain the runs. Kanishk Chouhan has been bowling tight.

One thing that has gone against India is that the pitch seems to have eased quite a bit. The sun's out, and all the moisture that the pitch had seems to have dissipated.

The Indian pacers have bowled way too short or too full. They have strayed down the leg as well. Bangladesh are under no pressure at the moment despite losing a wicket in the first over.

Despite taking a wicket, Devendran has been wayward. He's given 17 runs in 2 overs. Bangladesh have lost a wicket, but scored 22 runs in 3 overs. India haven't managed to build any pressure.

Deepesh Devendran gets Zawad Abrar caught at third man. He could've gotten him out first ball but the edge went between the keeper and first slip. This time, he gets him. India start strong.

"I am happy because we had already decided that it is a (tricky) wicket, which means the match will also be low-scoring. We decided to score 230 par because the wicket is on the slower side, and the ball is stopping and turning. It was not a very good wicket to bat on, but we still batted well. (What was his approach?) I had a talk with Vaibhav; he said, 'Just bat 50 balls. Even if you score 1 run, it is fine.' He told me that he will take care of the runs; let's just bat till the end. (How has he done so well?) It is just practice towards the year; that's all," he said.

A couple of hits by Deepesh Devendran has helped India finish with 238/10 in 48.4 overs. It's upto the Indian bowlers now to defend the target.

With a six straight down the ground, Kundu has broken the shackles. Since resumption, he hasn't been timign it well. Perhaps he can muster a few more of these hits to get India around 250.

And Kundu departs. He tries to pull the last ball of the 47th over and edges it to the keeper. India may end up getting all out here.

Since resumption, Kundu has scored just 6 of 13. Khilan Patel has outscored him, even hitting one boundary. Kundu's the set batter, he has to take more initiative.

As we say this, Khilan has been caught behind for 8.

4 balls after resumption, India has lost their 7th wicket. RS Ambrish has been caught behind. Off-spinner Sheikh Paevez Jibon has taken his first wicket of the match.

The match will resume soon. But, we've lost some overs. The game had begun late due to rain and another interruption means a curtailed game.

The match has been reduced to 49 overs per side. 2 overs lost.

It has stopped raining and the side covers are coming off. Clouds are still present but these are great signs.

And there is a rain halt now. It is quite heavy now as Ambrish and Kundu make their way back to the pavilion.

Kundu has decided to go for his shots here. He tries to pull one, but mistimes, since it is a slower one. India need to keep their wickets intact. Now he attempts a hook, but is narrowly saved.

82-ball 50 for Abhigyan Kundu. He has held one end together and needs to continue. And there is a lot of overs left in the innings.

Kanishk has thrown his wicket away. Hakim has a wicket, as India is looking down the barrell. The batter is out for 28.

This is a good partnership brewing between Kanishk and Kundu. They need to keep going here.

Kanishk Chouhan has joined Kundu in the middle as India start rebuilding. The weather has improved with no rain in sight. This pair needs to bat for another 8-10 overs for India to get something around 250 on the board.

Iqbal Hossain Emon has bounced Pangalia out. The batter was troubled by the pacer's sharp bumper in his previous over. Emon pitches the ball on leg; it rises to his chest, Pangalia gets into an odd position, and the ball ricochets off his gloves and lobs to the first slip. India is in trouble now.

Suryavanshi departs for 72. He was batting beautifully. The runs weren't coming as quick with Kundu hogging strike for the most part. The destructive batter finally holes out.

Harvansh Pangalia joins Kundu.

It has started to rain again. India are in a good position and will hope rain doesn't arrive and change the pitch. Suryavanshi closing on a fine hundred, he's unbeaten on 72.

Bangladesh have put a lid on India. The runs aren't coming. 19 runs have been scored in the last 5 overs.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has had his fair share of luck in the last couple of overs. A few edges that have either gone over the fielder or in no man's land. He hasn't been getting strike with Kundu facing the majority of delivery and that might have affected his flow.

Abhigyan Kundu has scored just 3 off 25 balls. On what is a tough pitch, he's taking his time. Since Suryavanshi has been scoring runs at a quick pace, India Under-19 won't mind that. One hopes he doesn't get under pressure.

Fifty for Vaibhav Suryavanshi 

It seems Viabhav Suryavanshi is playing on a different pitch altogether. Other batters are struggling to gauge the spin and pace of the deck but the 14-year-old has raced away to a 30-ball fifty, his first-ever in an ICC U19 World Cup. Incredible stuff as he keeps India afloat in the game despite early setbacks.

India U19 lose another and this time Vihaan Malhotra gets out. He never looked comfortable at the crease, with nerves taking better of him. Good captaincy by Bangladesh to bring off-spinners from both ends and Aziz Tamim, the skipper himself, gets Malhotra caught behind. 
Interestingly, India bring another lefty to the crease in the form of Abhigyan Kundu, the savior from the last game. 

Meanwhile, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, is still going strong and could make his half-century soon.

All eyes on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

India desperately need Vaibhav Suryavanshi there in the middle. After losing Mhatre and Trivedi, the 14-year-old prodigy is India's best bet to dent Bangladesh early. He is performing with aplomb as well, having racked up 30 runs in just 19 balls. He isn't going helter-skelter but is punishing poor balls from the Bangladesh pacers. After a sumptuous upper cut for a six, he has smashed a lovely cover drive to ease traditionalists as well. 

Bangladesh on top! 

Wow, Al Fahad has given his side a supreme start as he has got two in two in the 3rd over. After Mhatre, he sent back Vedant Tridevi on a golden duck. A sumptuous delivery, shaping away and a simple catch at first slips. The onus is now on Vaibhav Suryavanshi (15* off 8) and new batter Vihaan Malhotra. Fahad had a hat-trick on the first ball of his next over but bowled it quite wide. He surely has his tail up nonetheless. 

One down for India

In a big blow, India U19 have lost captain Ayush Mhatre, who has handed a soft catch at covers. A poor shot by Mhatre, who is having an awful run of form in Youth ODIs lately. Al Fahad banged in it a tad short, outside off stump. Mhatre went to hoick it over the infield but got the timing all wrong. 

Hold the pose. Feast your eyes. Take a bow. What a shot to kickstart his innings by Ayush Mhatre. Emon pitched it up and Mhatre pierced it through covers to hit the first boundary of the match. The flow of the bat was amazing. Superb stuff.

The moment has arrived. Indian U19 captain Ayush Mhatre is taking the strike while Fahad takes the new ball. A good length delivery to the proceedinds as pacers are likely to get help off the deck early in the innings.

A proud moment for cricketers as they line up for the national anthems. It will be Bangladesh's first followed by India's 'Jana Gana Mana'.

India U19 team go unchanged after their win over USA U19. Abhigyan Kundu impressed among batters. Now that India are put to bat first, expectations will be on the likes of captain Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

Bangladesh won the toss and elect to bowl first 

Bangladesh have asked India to bat first on a 'damp' wicket at Queens Sports Club. 

We are into Day 3 of the ICC Men's Under 19 50-over World Cup, and India play their second bout. The Ayush Mhatre-led side had a sluggish win over the USA side despite the bowling doing superbly. It was a rain-affected game. 
The other game today is between Sri Lanka and Japan.
