After a successful opening season in 2023, South Africa’s premier T20 franchise cricket league, the SA20 has established itself as one of the most prominent one. Since its inception in 2023, the league is currently in its fourth season, which is being played in the rainbow nation. Featuring six city-based teams, the league has attracted some of the best T20 talents.

While the tournament has seen exceptional bowling spells, batters too have been explosive, scoring at a brisk rate and offering treat to the fans. Here in this article, we aim to provide the details of players who have scored most runs in the T20 league over the past few editions.

List of players to score most runs in SA20 history

5. Faf du Plessis (1029 runs)

In the list of top run-getters in the SA20, former Proteas captain and veteran of the game, Faf du Plessis secures the fifth place, having scored 1000-plus runs so far. However, his maximum runs came in the inaugural edition of the tournament, but in the ongoing SA20 2025-26, he recently etched his name into history book, becoming the first South African players to breach the 12000-run mark in T20 cricket.

4. Aiden Markram (1077 runs)

The two-time SA20 winning captain, Aiden Markram also finds himself in the list of batter with most runs in SA20 history. Having guided his previous franchise – Sunrisers Eastern Cape to two successive titles, Markram sits at fourth place with 1077 runs to his name. Featuring for the Durban Super Giants in SA20 2025-26, Markram is in a nec-and-neck battle with Heinrich Klaasen (1078 runs).

3. Heinrich Klaasen (1078 runs)

At the third place is former South African batter and a white-ball hard-hitter Heinrich Klaasen. The 34-year-old who has appeared for the Durban Super Giants across all the seasons thus far, has amassed 1078 runs across 39 matches with his highest score of 104* coming in the inaugural edition.

2. Rassie van der Dussen (1167 runs)

36-year-old Rassie van der Dussen comfortably occupies the second place in the list of batters with most runs in SA20 history. Having played for MI Cape Town since the inception of the league, the top-order batter has scored 1167 runs thus far. In the ongoing SA20 2025-26 edition, the right-handed batter has already hit 203 runs in seven matches.

1. Ryan Rickelton (1329 runs)

The 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, Ryan Rickelton has been a find of the SA20. Playing for the defending champions, MI Cape Town in all for season so far, Ryan Rickelton has shone with the bat, scoring 1329 runs in 32 matches. While he finished as the top run-getter in SA20 2024, amassing 530 runs in 10 matches, in the ongoing season he has already scored 300-plus runs.
