Kevin Pietersen urges Prithvi Shaw to learn from Sarfaraz Khan's weight loss journey

Prithvi Shaw has been criticised for his fitness and work ethic.

Delhi Capitals (DC) mentor Kevin Pietersen has urged former DC opener Prithvi Shaw to work on his fitness. Pietersen hasn’t worked with Prithvi, but everyone in the cricket community acknowledges the talent he possesses. Greg Chappell even wrote an open letter to the talented batter in the hopes of inspiring Prithvi to change the trajectory of his career.

Pietersen has also done the same, albeit in a different fashion. The English great took to X (formerly Twitter) to praise another Mumbai player, Sarfaraz Khan, who shared his fitness journey. Sarfaraz was injured and, post that, has tried to get back into shape. He shared that he’s lost 17 kg weight in the past two months; at the same time, he’s been snubbed from India’s Test team.

“Can someone show Prithvi this, please? It can be done! Strong body, strong mind!” Pietersen wrote. It was clearly meant for Prithvi, who has gained a lot of weight in the last few years and was even criticised for it by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Sarfaraz was also criticised for his heavy build. Although it never affected his game, many aimed at him for his weight and physical appearance. Sarfaraz has taken the criticism positively and worked on his fitness. Pietersen hopes that Prithvi also takes a leaf out of Sarfaraz’s book.

That may happen. Prithvi has switched states from Mumbai to Maharashtra, with the hopes of changing the course of his career. Perhaps in the near future, he’ll get back to his prime, fitness-wise, and then aim to play in the Indian Premier League (IPL) once again.
