Australia cricket team are likely to replace an injured Usman Khawaja with Josh Inglis for the AUS vs ENG 2nd Ashes Test. The Australian opener has been ruled out of the pink-ball fixture due to back spasms, forcing the hosts to make a last-minute change to their playing XI. The day-night fixture, which will be held at The Gabba in Brisbane, will get underway from December 4 onwards.
Inglis to replace Khawaja in 2nd Ashes Test
As per AAP, Inglis is set to feature in his first Test at home in the 2nd Ashes Test. The report states that the keeper-batter is expected to be slotted in the middle-order while Travis Head will continue to open the innings for Australia. Captain Steve Smith is expected to confirm Inglis as Khawaja’s replacement in the pre-match press conference on Wednesday.
Khawaja joins Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood on the list of Australians who are injured at present amid the ongoing Ashes series. Khwaja did try to train for 30 minutes on Tuesday, but was uncomfortable during his net-stint. The report states that while Beau Webster was also in contention for a spot in the playing XI for the 2nd Ashes Test, Inglis is likely to get the nod ahead of him as the latter spent extensive time training in the slip cordon, a position that Khawaja usually takes.
