England cricket team batter Jos Buttler’s woeful form in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will be a cause for concern for Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of IPL 2026. The explosive England opener, who was the franchise’s third highest run-getter in the previous edition of the cash rich league, has simply failed to fire so far in the marquee event. Buttler, an experienced campaigner for England, has been a let down at the top of the order resulting in the rest of the middle-order being pressurized.
Worry for GT over Buttler’s woeful form
In four group stage matches that England have played so far, Buttler has a highest score of just 26 runs. That came in his very first game in the T20 World Cup 2026 against Nepal. In the next game against West Indies, the opener scored just 21 runs before he was sent packing by Roston Chase. Following that, in England’s encounter against Scotland, Buttler managed to score just 3 runs. On Monday, he registered the same score against Italy as he was the first England batter to depart.
Prior to the game against Italy, Buttler had 1066 runs form 39 matches in T20 World Cups, averaging 38.07 including a highest score of 101 runs. However, he seems far from his best in the ongoing edition and this is a worry for Gujarat Titans as he will next be seen in action for the franchise in IPL 2026 after the WC.
Buttler has kept Ben Duckett benched so far in the tournament, with England opting for the services of the veteran instead in their playing XI. The two-time champions will be hoping that the England opener will pull up his socks and go all guns blazing in the Super 8 stage, where the team will meet more formidable opponents.
