So, the time is near. The countdown has begun for a major update on Jasprit Bumrah as the star pacer has completed his scans and assessment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Benglauru. According to the Times of India, Bumrah’s assessment reports will come out in the next 24 hours or so. Following that, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will take a call on his availability for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy.
Jasprit Bumrah’s injury is really under “scanner”
On the eve of the opening one-day international, Indian captain Rohit Sharma disclosed that even he is unsure about the magnitude of Bumrah’s injury. It looks like he was awaiting the medical tests of Bumrah, who complained of back spasms during the Australian tour. As per reports now, Bumrah’s scans will evaluated by Dr Rowan Schouten from New Zealand alongside the BCCI medical team staff.
The mystery surrounding Jasprit Bumrah’s injury continues to deepen. Initially, there were conflicting reports about the severity of his condition, with some claiming he was advised bed rest, while others suggested he might miss the group stage matches of the ICC Champions Trophy. The truth remains unclear, with the BCCI providing only a single update—that Bumrah has been replaced by Varun Chakaravarthy in the India vs England 3rd ODI squad. In the first ODI, Harshit Rana, who was slotted as a cover for Bumrah in the series, had a dream debut as he claimed a three-fer, with India winning rather comfortably.

Should India risk Bumrah for ICC Champions Trophy?
As we all know, Bumrah was injured as he overbowled at the Border Gavaskar Trophy. His performance was so special in the tour that without him, India might have been whitewashed. But his heroics took a toll on his body and now there are fewer chances for Bumrah to be fit in time. The deadline to make any changes in squads for the ICC Champions Trophy is set for February 11. Hence, there will be less than 3 days for BCCI to take a call on Bumrah. If the injury is severe and Bumrah needs ample rest, then he should not be fast-tracked. In case Bumrah opts out, the possible replacements for India should be Harshit Rana or Varun Chakravarthy.
