Another day, another record! Jasprit Bumrah has returned to Test cricket seamlessly. After a scratchy Asia Cup, the unorthodox fast bowler was back in his element against the West Indies in Ahmedabad.
His pace, which dipped in England, returned, along with his accuracy. He struck with the new ball and excelled, as usual, with the older ball. His signature yorker was back. Bumrah was back in form!
Another Test record for Bumrah
But taking a 3-fer in the first innings, Bumrah also became the joint fastest Indian fast bowler to claim 50 Test wickets in India. Javagal Srinath held that record for years, and it isn’t shocking that Bumrah’s the one who joins his league. It’s taken him just 292.5 overs (1757 balls).
Many downplay Bumrah’s prowess at home. That’s primarily because India preserves him for away tours by resting him at home. But his record is godly in India. His average actually drops when he plays in India; that doesn’t sound possible, but it is.
Surfaces in India more often than not aid the pacers, but Bumrah has the skills to excel at home. New ball swing, sticking to bowling at the stumps, reverse swing, yorkers, and slower balls – he brings all of his weapons to the party in India.

Spinners, who are the dominant force in India, bowl long and hard to get wickets, but that’s not the case with Bumrah. He usually takes about 7 overs to get a wicket in Test cricket, but even that record improves in India.
