The world of cricket was excited about Italy. There were celebrations in the European country that is famously known for winning football World Cups. However, they have a long history with cricket and when they qualified for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, there was palpable excitement.
Bad news for Italy at T20 World Cup
However, their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign hasn’t started on a great note. In their first game, captain Wayne Madsen has dislocated his left shoulder. Italy face Scotland in Match 7 of the tournament at the Eden Gardens. After Madsen chose to bowl first, he put in a dive in the 4th over. George Munsey, who hit a 30-ball fifty, was going strong and hit Thomas Draca towards mid-wicket region. However, in an attempt to stop the ball, Madsen dived to left. Unfortunately, he landed on one of the practice pitches at the Eden Gardens and we all know how lethal that can be.
He screamed in pain and instant help followed. The medic came and Madsen was unable to straighten his arm. Things looked bleak and when Ian Bishop shared an update, we all felt it was coming. The former West Indian pacer shared that the 42-year-old has dislocated his shoulder and won’t take part in the rest of the SCO vs ITA game.
Talking about Madsen, losing him would be the last thing that Italy would want. A mainstay of English cricket, Madsen played for Italy due to his grandmother’s heritage. Before that, he played 253 first-class games and made over 17,000 runs. Not to forget, he has vast experience of playing 117 List-A and almost 220 T20 games as well. Dislocating his shoulder on the day when Italy become only the 25th country to play in the T20 World Cup is so unfortunate. It is highly likely that Madsen plays any part in the tournament.
