Abhimanyu Easwaran is upbeat on making his India debut despite being left out of the squad for the IND vs WI Test series. Easwaran was on the bench for entire India tour of England but was left out for the home series. The opener will now lead Bengal in the upcoming Ranji Trophy.
Easwaran takes Suryakumar inspiration for India return
Abhimanyu Easwaran has seen 15 players make their test debut since he was first called up to the side. The Bengal star has been a constant benchwarmer, with the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and others surging ahead. Easwaran however has his spirits up, and is eyeing the Ranji Trophy for a return.
“Yes, it does hurt sometimes. You put in all the effort, train hard, and the dream is to be in the middle — to perform, to contribute to wins. But I’m fortunate to have a solid support system: my family, friends, and coach. They help me stay grounded and motivated. Right now, I’m in a good headspace and looking forward to the Ranji season,” Easwaran told Revsportz.
Easwaran is now into his 30s but takes inspiration from Michael Hussey and Suryakumar Yadav who made their debuts late. Surya made his debut after the age of 30, and now is India’s T20 captain.
“Absolutely. I’m a big fan of Michael Hussey. Even before his Australia debut, he was consistently scoring in domestic cricket. His journey shows what perseverance can achieve. Even Surya [Suryakumar Yadav] making his India debut after 30 and now leading the team — it’s incredible. Players like them are great examples. So yes, it’s always at the back of my mind — “Why not me?” he added.
