Let us all admit, that Mohammed Shami might not be the same force to reckon with, that he was until a few years ago, but still is an asset to any team, especially in the IPL. That despite of him having a poor 2025 season, where he bagged 6 wickets in 9 clashes, at an average of 56 — after being sold to SRH for 10 Cr.
Now, come the 2026 season, if the Hyderabad management do decide to trade him, some teams could benefit largely from it. If the 34-year-old pacer goes on to remain fit, then teams like KKR and CSK could benefit greatly, if they add Mohammed Shami to their roster. Let’s start with Chennai first.
NO Shami for SRH Could Help Other Teams
The team did have decent pacers in Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Choudhary, Anshul Kamboj, and Matheesha Pathirana, but then their problem was lack of experienced pacers. There wasn’t just anyone who could lead this pace attack. And a veteran like Shami, could be their leader of the pack. Yes, one of the issues that CSK face always is, they don’t pick young players, but for now, they could just invest in Shami short-term, who could also groom bowlers like Kamboj and Khaleel.
IPL Trade to CSK, KKR or LSG?
When it comes to KKR, they fell heavily short in the IPL 2025, with Harshit Rana proving to be flop, and Umran Malik’s injury. Vaibhav Arora was good in patches, and the team missed a big name in their attack, after Mitchell Starc was removed. If roped in, Shami also might end KKR’s home woes, since he is from Bengal, and plays his domestic cricket there. So, it could be a win-win for the team.
Maybe, LSG could also try their luck. But for that, they need to get rid of their injured pacers first. If that happens, Shami has a lot to offer to the team, who suffered massively at the expense of injured Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan.
