IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians debunk ‘fake news’ of rift between Hardik Pandya & Rohit Sharma
During the IPL 2025 season, some reports suggested that all wasn't well between Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma.

Has Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya informed the management that Rohit Sharma needs to redeem himself in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, or he’ll be released? This news was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a handle with 10,500 followers on March 13.

Mumbai Indians debunk Pandya vs Rohit news

The social media platform has been swarmed by aggregators who make their money by sharing quotes, latest cricket updates, and reports. However, questions are often raised about the credibility of their sources. In this case, that turned out to be right.

The account wrote that Pandya has warned Rohit ahead of IPL 2026. It stated that the former MI captain has been underperforming for the past decade and needs to pull himself up by the bootstraps, or he’ll be gone.

“Hardik Pandya has informed the management that there will be no tolerance this time if Rohit fails to deliver. The MI management is very frustrated with Rohit’s performances over the last 10–12 years, as he has often scored only around 200–300 runs per season and that too at a strike rate close to 120, despite being one of the highest-paid players in the squad,” the user wrote.

Within hours, MI tackled the fake claims. The two captains have no bad blood. Yes, there were reports last year that suggested that Rohit wasn’t pleased with MI’s decision to remove him as captain and name Pandya as his successor. But that doesn’t mean they have an issue with each other.

In fact, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla had stated that the board reached out to both Rohit and Pandya to ensure everything was fine since they are both part of India’s ODI team. Shukla added that all was fine between them, and it was just Rohit’s fanbase that took offence.
