India cricket team suffered an injury scare on Friday as Mohammed Siraj was hit during a net session ahead of the T20 World Cup Super 8 tie against South Africa. The pacer was included in India’s squad in the last minute after Harshit Rana was ruled out of the marquee tournament. While Siraj has only featured in one match so far, his injury comes as a fresh concern for India, especially at this crucial stage of the tournament.
Siraj gets hit during nets session before Super 8
As per RevSportz, Siraj was hit on his knees while bowling to Hardik Pandya in the nets ahead of the Super 8 fixture against South Africa. Such was the impact of the blow off Pandya’s willow that the pacer was forced to hobble off the field. Other reports suggested that Siraj was left reeling in pain after the incident.
Siraj returned to India’s T20I setup after a long gap and created instant impact in the game against the USA. He finished with figures of 3/29. Thereafter, he was benched for the matches against Namibia, Pakistan and Netherlands. India are expeced to persist with Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh in the playing XI for the Super 8 matches as well. However, Siraj remains as the only back-up pacer available in the 15-member squad.
