The wait is finally over. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are back in Indian colours after months, as India face Australia in the first ODI of the much-anticipated white-ball series in Perth on Sunday. For fans who have waited since the Champions Trophy to see the duo back together, this game was meant to be a celebration but the weather gods seem to have other plans.

As of 7 AM IST, dark clouds have gathered above the Optus Stadium, and light drizzle has already begun, nearly two hours before the scheduled toss. The breeze is picking up too, adding to the gloom that’s sweeping across Perth’s otherwise stunning skyline.

IND vs AUS: Perth Stadium weather report

According to forecasts, the morning is expected to remain partly sunny before rain probabilities increase steadily through the afternoon. Temperatures, currently hovering around 21°C, will dip to 16°C by evening. The chance of precipitation rises to 40% between 2 PM and 5 PM, exactly the period when the second innings would be in full swing.

While the drizzle may not wash out the match entirely, it could lead to short interruptions, which would not be ideal for a contest that marks the return of India’s senior-most stars under a new leadership setup led by Shubman Gill. As many as 40,000 fans are expected to bombard the stadium in a 45,000-capacity stadium.

The weather might yet clear in patches, but the build-up has been anything but calm. For now, all eyes will remain fixed on the skies above Perth and whether they let Rohit and Kohli script their long-awaited comeback uninterrupted.
