It is on December 20 that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel will come up with the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup, and it seems, that all the players have been finalised. As per a report in the Indian Express, it is unlikely that there would be any surprises in the Indian squad.
Selectors to name India squad for T20 World Cup on Saturday
Shubman Gill’s form has emerged as a big concern, which could be discussed, and there will be a debate between the names of Washington Sundar and Rinku Singh. Talking about Gill, who has been elevated to the position of vice-captain in the format, he has not managed to score even a fifty. In fact, his last fifty came back in 2024.
Going further, his highest score in the last 15 innings has been only 47, that he made against Pakistan in the Asia Cup a couple of months back. On the flipside, the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan have been sending timely reminders to the selectors, for an inclusion in the white-ball side.
Rinku Singh vs Washington Sundar to be discussed
But that said, the selectors might not be very keen on getting in a new face, with only five matches to go before the T20 World Cup; just a series with New Zealand remains. Meanwhile, the selectors could also be tempted to go with the same squad that played in the Asia Cup 2025.
Additionally, there is also a possibility to go with three spinners in the team, and one extra batter. What really makes all the difference is, coach Gautam Gambhir prefers all-rounders in the team, which could eventually settle the debate between Washi and Rinku.
The fast-bowling line-up is crystal clear though. It will consist of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, along with Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube. As for keepers, the buck stops with Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma.
