The India cricket team squad for the upcoming IND vs ENG T20I series will be selected on Sunday. Earlier on Saturday, reports had claimed that the side for the T20Is would be picked first while the squads for the ODI series and Champions Trophy would be decided on after January 18. The T20Is against England will be the first since Suryakumar Yadav and co faced South Africa in November 2024.
IND vs ENG T20Is squad to be picked on Sunday
As per Times of India, the selection committee will meet on Sunday at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai to pick the squad for IND vs ENG T20Is. As mentioned earlier, the squads for the ODIs and CT 2025 will be picked later. Reports had suggested that the BCCI is likely to seek an extension from the ICC as it is expected to go past the January 12 deadline for teams to submit their provisional squads for Champions Trophy 2025.

As per reports, the BCCI is expected to cite commitments in recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy to seek an extension from the ICC. The five-match T20I series, which will take place before the ODI series and CT 2025, will kick-start from January 22. Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai will host the games respectively. India have been in stellar form in T20Is in 2024, having won the T20 World Cup under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma. The team lifted the title for the 2nd time following which stalwarts Rohit, Virat and Jadeja announced their retirement.
The transition was smooth as Suryakumar Yadav was named the skipper in the shortest format. India dominated the shortest format in the remainder of 2024, clinching series wins against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and South Africa. The likes of Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shivam Dube among others are expected to feature in the upcoming series against England.
