Ahead of the IND vs WI contest, Ganguly as opined on what should be the team's combination and what could be the nature of the game

Former India captain and current Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Sourav Ganguly has predicted the India vs West Indies Super 8 clash at the Eden Gardens to be a high-scoring encounter. The Men in Blue face one final hurdle in making it to the T20 World Cup 2026 semi-finals in the form of a perfect WI and will have to defeat them to keep their title defence on track. Ahead of the IND vs WI contest, Ganguly as opined on what should be the team’s combination apart from what could be the nature of the game.

Will India stick to Sanju Samson in XI vs WI?

As per NDTV, Ganguly reckoned that India had struck balance by bringing in Sanju in the previous game and that they should stick to the left-right combination at the top of the order. The ex-India captain claimed that the game against West Indies will be a high-scoring one. Further, commeting on his stint with Pretoria Capitals in SA20 where he worked in close quarters with some players who are a part of the current West Indies line-up, Ganguly cheekily remarked that he had offered tips to the stars as to how to play in South Africa and not at the Eden Gardens, adding that India boast of a strong power-hitting unit as well.

Sanju, Ishan and Abhishek are great players. We wanted a left-right combination and Team India has got it. This will be a high-scoring game. I gave them tips to play in SA. Not in Eden Gardens. Shai Hope, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase are great players. West Indies is overall a good side… but India has equally formidable power hitters — maybe more,” Ganguly said.

With an overwhelming presence of left-handers backfiring on India in the game against South Africa, India decided to bring in Samson for the tie against Zimbabwe. And it worked wonders for the team, as they manage to strike the perfect left-right balance. India, who are the defending champions of the T20 World Cup, find themselves in a do-or-die situation in the game against the Windies and will have to overpower the opposition in a classy manner in order to make it to the semis.
