IND vs WI 1st Test: Siraj's first 5-fer at home denied by Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah

Mohammed Siraj narrowly missed out on his 6th five-wicket haul in Tests as he finished with figures of 4/40 in IND vs WI 1st Test

Mohammed Siraj continues to be the leader of India cricket team’s pace attack as he picked up his 4 wickets in the IND vs WI 1st Test. The Hyderabad pacer, who is the leading wicket-taker for the Men in Blue in Tests in 2025, managed to take all his wickets within two sessions on Day 1 of the contest in Ahmedabad. Siraj’s dream run in the longest format continues as he managed to pick where he left off from in England effortlessly.

Siraj misses out on consecutive fifers

Siraj drew the first blood as he got rid of opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul (0) as he was caught behind by Jurel. He then removed Brandon King (13) with a peach of a delivery that saw the Windies batter leave the ball in a bizarre fashion. The brain fade led to the ball uprooting the batter’s middle sump. KL Rahul then took a brilliant catch in the slips off Siraj to get rid of Alick Athanaze (12).

He then struck after lunch to get rid of West Indies captain Roston Chase (24) as Jurel took a rather easy catch behind the stumps. Siraj’s pursuit for his fifth wicket, which would have marked his first at home, failed as Bumrah got two wickets in the 2nd session while Kuldeep and Washington got one each to help bundle out the West Indies for 162 runs.

The fast bowler now has 32 wickets to his name so far this year. It also marked his second four-wicket haul for Siraj in home Tests after 4/84 against England in Rajkot 2024.

Siraj’s brilliance in the IND vs ENG 5th Test allowed India to pull off an impossible and draw the series in England. In the absence of Bumrah, he bowled an outstanding spell of 5/104 in the 2nd innings of the game, steering India to a famous win. He finished the series with 23 wickets to his name, leaving his teammates far behind on the list of most wicket-takers.
