Shubman Gill and Co closed in on a win with a day of dominance in Ahmedabad on Friday. India’s middle order might powered through on Day 2 of the IND vs WI 1st Test. KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Dhruv Jurel slammed tons while Gill chipped in with a half-century to hand India a gigantic 286-run lead.
Resuming at 121/2, India lost Gill soon after he got to his half-century. KL Rahul reached his 12th Test century before Lunch but was soon dismissed. Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja forged a century-plus stand to consolidate a dominant day for the hosts. Here at Insidesport. In, we look at the IND vs WI Highlights from Day 2:
KL Rahul scores a century at home after almost 9 years
India cricket team star KL Rahul ended his close to 9-year-wait to score a hundred at home as he breached the triple figure mark in the IND vs WI 1st Test. After Yashavi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan fell cheaply, Rahul held the innings together with a gritty knock. It was only his second Test century in India. The hundred marks Rahul’s third in this calendar year, two of which came earlier in the series against England. The last time he scored a hundred in India was against England where he was dismissed for 199 runs.
Dhruv Jurel makes opportunity count
Dhruv Jurel might be serving as Rishabh Pant’s deputy but the Rajasthan Royals star is quickly making a mark for himself. The 24-year-old on Friday slammed his 2nd Test half-century in a fine display of Test match batting in Ahmedabad. He guided India to a score in excess of 300, batting like an experience campaigner. His measured approach stood out, with Jurel dabbling aggression and caution effectively. Jurel is slowly making the claim for himself, allowing him or Rishabh Pant to feature as pure batsmen.
Ravindra Jadeja surpasses Dhoni as golden run continues
Ravindra Jadeja slammed yet another century in Tests, which happened to be his seventh 50+ score in the last nine innings. A purple patch with the bat that started in the previous series in England, has continued for the southpaw against the West Indies as well. The 36-year-old surpassed MS Dhoni in the list of most sixes in Tests. Ravindra Jadeja now has 79 in 86 matches, while MS Dhoni had 78 in 90 encounters. The Indian record is held by Virender Sehwag, who hit 91 maximums in his career.
