IND vs PAK at Asia Cup 2025: Supreme Court turns down plea seeking cancellation of match

A plea was filed in the Supreme Court of India seeking the cancellation of the IND vs PAK tie at the Asia Cup 2025 on September 14

The Supreme Court of India on Thursday refused urgent listing of a plea seeking cancellation of the IND vs PAK tie at Asia Cup 2025. The arch-rivals are set to lock horns at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, September 14. Although the BCCI has received a go-ahead from the Central Government to take on Pakistan in multi-nation tournaments, a plea seeking the match to be cancelled has been filed at the SC.

SC says no to plea seeking cancellation of IND vs PAK tie

As per The Indian Express, the matter was mentioned before Justices J K Maheshwari and Vijay Bishnoi by a lawyer for urgent listing. The judges reportedly noted that there was no urgency in this matter and that the court will not be able to do anything as the match was scheduled for Sunday. The petition was reportedly filed by four law students led by a Urvashi Jain, claiming that organising the IND vs PAK tie in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack sends an ‘inconsistent message’.

Match is this Sunday? What can we do about that? Let it be. Match should go on,” the SC judges said.

What the BCCI has said

As per news agency ANI, the BCCI secretary pointed out that the central government’s policy clearly stated that India could face Pakistan in multi-nation tournaments. Saikia stated that Team India will only not play against Pakistan in bilateral events, adding that there were no restrictions imposed by the Government of India.

So far as the BCCI’s view is concerned, we have to follow whatever the central government formalises. Recently, our policy, which is in place, regarding India’s participation in any multinational tournament or international tournament, there is no restrictions imposed by the central government whether we play any of the countries which are not on good terms with India. So India have to play all the matches in any multinational tournament,” Saikia said.
