Rohit Sharma made a big statement in his quest for the World Cup 2027. The 38-year-old smashed a scintillating century to grab India a consolation win in the IND vs AUS ODIs. Saturday could be marked as Rohit’s last appearance in Australia and he marked it with his 50th international century.

Rohit Sharma became the first visiting batter to score 6 centuries in Australia. Chasing a modest 237, the India opener looked in good rhythm early on. Sharma took on Starc with some crisp drives inside the first 10 overs.

Rohit ensured that India scored at a good clip, stitching a solid partnership with Shubham Gill. After Hill’s departure, Rohit continued his flow with Virat Kohli. The duo put on a century stand, with Rohit hitting the bad balls away with venom. Adam Zampa and Cooper Connolly copied some punishment as the former India captain went about his innings.

  • 5 in 159 T20Is
  • 33 in 275 ODI

Rohit eventually reached his landmark in the 33rd over of the innings. It was his 33rd ODI century, making it 50 international centuries for him. Rohit remains the only batsmen with 5 or more centuries in each format. It was also Rohit’s 9th ODi century against Australia, the second most by a batsmen against an opposition. Kohli has 10 centuries against Sri Lanka, with 9 against West Indies. Sachin Tendulkar also scored 9 against Australia in his legendary career.

With Yashasvi Jaiswal waiting in the wings, Rohit Sharma needed a big series to prove he still has a lot to offer. After a fighting 73 in Adelaide, he now has guided India to victory with a classy ton. The Hit-Man has proven that he still remains a class apart in ODI cricket.
