Hard lengths, yorkers and white ball prep: Prasidh Krishna toils in Delhi heat
With less than a week to go for the India vs Australia series, Prasidh Krishna used his downtime to prepare. He was picked for the WI series but did not get a game with Shubham Gill opting for an unchanged XI. With Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah playing the second Test, chances of Prasidh playing the 1st ODI on 18th are high.
In turn, Krishna has already stepped into white ball mode. Prasidh has worked with Morne Morkel on the sidelines on all 4 days of the IND vs WI 2nd Test. On Monday, the Karnataka pacer worked on hitting the hard lengths with Morkel closely inspecting his landing and pitching. The idea was to hit the 6m mark on the wicket consistently. He later switched to yorker practice. Prasidh will be trusted to bowl in the death, and a yorker is a potent weapon in his arsenal.
Prasidh has a has stop start ODI career due to injuries and loss of form. Since making his debut in 2021, the 30-year-old has played only 17 ODIs, picking up 29 wickets. With Mohammed Shami now not in plans, Prasidh has a chance to stake a permanent spot in the playing XI.
India have long looked at Prasidh as a hit the deck bowler who could be vital to their pace attack. His abilities could work well in conditions in Australia where the wickets offer pace and bounce. With the World Cup in South Africa where similar wickets are expected, Prasidh could well turn out to be a key component of the Indian team.
