ICC AGM: USA Cricket avoid suspension with LA2028 on the horizon

USA Cricket have been given 3 months to sort out their governance issues or risk facing suspension with an eye on the LA2028 Olympics

The United States Cricket Association have avoided an suspension from the ICC after discussions in the latest Annual General Meeting. USA Cricket were in danger of being de-recognised owing to non compliance with ICC norms. The Jay Shah led ICC also proposed that major post holders resign as part of of the roadmap for LA2028. However, the suspension decision has been put on hold as per reports.

No USA cricket suspension despite year-long ICC notice

The ICC had issued a notice to USA cricket in July last year for non compliance with its governance rules. That game despite USA hosting the T20 World Cup along with the West Indies. USA are a associate member nation, and ICC deemed it not fit for administrative purpose.

The world cricket body then re-jigged plans and proposed a structural reset of leadership and governance. The new roadmap is in compliance with US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), with USA Cricket needing a National Body Certificate for LA2028.

With that in mind, ICC has opted against suspension. USA Cricket will play a major role in cricket’s return to the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 3 years’ time. As per Forbes, ICC has given USA Cricket three months to address its governance issues. An official confirmation of the same is expected on Sunday. As per the report, chairman Venu Pisike and CEO Johnathan Atkeison attended the meeting at Singapore, and the decision was made.

USA meanwhile are not guaranteed an automatic spot despite being the hosts.
