Rain could play spoilsport in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 opener between India and Sri Lanka in Guwahati

The opening match of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 between India and Sri Lanka could potentially be interrupted by rain in Guwahati on Tuesday. Harmanpreet Kaur and co. will kick-start their campaign by taking on SL at the Barsapara stadium in Assam’s capital from 1.30 PM onwards. As per weather forecast, there is a yellow alert issued with a thunderstorm predicted towards the latter half of the match.

There are 49%-20% chances of rain through the INDW vs SLW match, with high chances of the start of play being delayed. Given that there is 49% and 55% chances of rain in the opening hours of the contest, the start of play could be delayed to wet outfield even if there is no precipitation at the time of toss.

The Women’s World Cup opening ceremony will take place before the action begins in the IND-W vs SL-W match. While BCCI had grand plans for the opening ceremony, they were reportedly toned down following the death of singer Zubeen Garg.
