Australia cricket team star Glenn Maxwell has confirmed that he has not registered himself for the IPL 2026 auction. 1355 players have registered themselves for the mini-auction which is scheduled to take place on December 16 in Abu Dhabi but the all-rounders name wasn’t a part of the list. Maxwell has now confirmed that he indeed did not put his name in the auction, thereby confirming that he has retired from the IPL.
Maxwell retires from IPL
Taking to social media platform Instagram, Maxwell stated that he was forced to take the ‘big call’ after multiple unforgettable seasons in the IPL. Expressing his gratitude for playing in the cash-rich league for multiple season, the Aussie sensation noted that the IPL had shaped him as a person and a cricketer, and that he was lucky to play alongside world-class teammates and represent franchises in front of die hard fans.
Maxwell, who made his IPL debut way back in 2012, earned the nickname Big Show with his vicious hitting ability. However, he has failed to live up to the reputation in the recent years. His best IPL season came in 2014 where he managed to amass 542 runs followed by 310 runs in 2017, 513 in 2021, 301 in 2022 and 400 in 2023. He was released by RCB before the IPL 2025 mega auction and was picked up by PBKS for Rs 4.20 crore.
Maxwell managed to score just 78 runs and pick 4 wickets in the 9 games that he featured in during IPL 2025. He was ruled out of the season mid-way through the league due to a fractured middle-finger. Given his sub-par performance, PBKS decided against retaining him.
