Following the Operation Sindoor, the Indian players have avoided any sort of greeting with Pakistani players on the field.

Who said India didn’t greet anyone with handshakes after their another superb win over arch-nemesis Pakistan? Well, the Super Fours stage saw India decimate Pakistan in a run-chase yet again, with this time the Men in Green not getting stunned by no handshake offer. For the second time in the tournament, players from the two sides did not exchange customary greetings either before or after the game. But in a telling moment after India’s six-wicket win, head coach Gautam Gambhir asked his players to shake hands with the umpires and of course not with their Pakistani counterparts.

A video that quickly went viral showed Gambhir addressing the Indian team post-match, telling them, “Umpires se toh mil lo (At least greet the umpires).” Suryakumar Yadav’s men then walked out, greeted the match officials, and headed back without acknowledging Pakistan’s players.

The act fuelled the ongoing “handshake controversy” that had already been sparked earlier in the tournament when Suryakumar Yadav and told match referee Andy Pycroft that there would be no handshakes between India and Pakistani players.

The on-field atmosphere was fired up last night. Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill had heated exchanges with Haris Rauf, while Gill also had a verbal duel with Shaheen Afridi. The coach later posted a picture of his players on Instagram with a one-word caption: “Fearless”. Meanwhile, Abhishek took a dig at Pakistani players, pointing out that they only talk, while India only “win.”
