Before the five-match Test series against England, Indian fans held high expectations for Yashasvi Jaiswal. After all, he was the man who humbled the Three Lions, hammering 712 runs at an incredible average of 89.00, playing his first Test series at home. Facing the same opponent, Jaiswal was touted to relish the English conditions, too. But, unfortunately, that hasn’t been the case at all at the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Jaiswal has just one innings left in the series and he is still averaging below 33. While his spot isn’t under consideration, with the high ceiling that Jaiswal has, he’s too good a player to miss out on these chances. Ever since his debut till the ongoing Test series, Jaiswal has been leading the batting charts with aplomb, hammering 1798 at 52.88. His streak included centuries in India, the West Indies, and Australia as well. But that average has dropped to just 32.56 (this series). Overall, his Test average has been hit by 4.26 runs per match.

Every batter has some sort of weakness. While Jaiswal was still in his early stages when he clubbed two double tons against England, he may have been found out in English conditions. He’s not technically the most astute batter and that has been seen. Jaiswal has been affected by the moving ball, having been dismissed via catch six times. He has been out via LBW twice and has been bowled once.
Even in the fifth Test in London, Jaiswal was undone with a nipbacker. He was late in bringing down his bat and was thus given out LBW. Even before Gus Atkinson dished out the ball, Jaiswal had already committed on the frontfoot, with his head pushing to the left side. On the previous occasion, he was caught at slips against the likes of Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer. In one of the occasions, Jaiswal lacked patience too, something that Sanjay Manjrekar also pointed out. While all this may seem quite troublesome for an opening batter, the southpaw has all the tools to make amends. Being just 23-year-old and playing your first series in England is easier said than done.
