Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has begun a new chapter in his life. The 39 year old tied the knot with his long time girlfriend Sophie Shine in an intimate ceremony on Saturday, 21 February, surrounded by close friends and family.
The wedding, kept away from the glare of the public eye, first came to light after Dhawan’s close friend and former India teammate Yuzvendra Chahal shared pictures on Instagram. Posting glimpses from the ceremony, Chahal captioned them with the popular Bollywood line, “Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.”
Dhawan looked regal in a cream coloured sherwani adorned with subtle floral patterns. Sophie complemented him in a lehenga featuring a similar floral theme, the coordinated outfits were so wholesome to watch.
The couple had been dating for over a year. They first caught public attention during the Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai, where they were spotted together in the stands. Over the following months, the two were seen at a media conclave as well, where Dhawan, without going into detail, hinted that he had found happiness again. In May 2025, he made their relationship public, and on 12 January this year, the pair announced their engagement on Instagram.
Who is Sophie Shine, Shikhar Dhawan’s new wife?
Sophie Shine is an Irish product consultant currently serving as Second Vice President – Product Consultant at Northern Trust Corporation, a US based financial services firm. According to reports, she and Dhawan met in the UAE, where she is presently based.
She studied Marketing and Management at the Limerick Institute of Technology and completed her schooling at Castleroy College in Ireland. Though she largely stayed away from the spotlight in the early days of their relationship, she gradually became a familiar face to fans during cricketing events abroad.
As most of you know this is Shikhar Dhawan’s second marriage. He was previously married to Aesha Mukherjee in 2011. The couple separated in October 2023, bringing an end to their 11 year marriage. They share a son, Zoravar.
While granting the divorce, a Delhi court observed that Dhawan had suffered mental trauma and noted that he had been kept away from his son for several years. However, he was not granted permanent custody. Instead, the court allowed him visitation rights and video calls of reasonable duration in India and Australia, where Aesha is based. Dhawan has since stated that he was later blocked from virtual communication with his son as well.
