The Oval Test between India and England, was one for the ages. Until the fourth day, the visitors were the firm favorites to win, having set a target of 374. But then, there was a different script ready for the last encounter. Joe Root and Harry Brook batted throughout the day and added 195 runs, leaving hosts only 37 runs away from the target, with four wickets still in hand.
2-2 Draw a Fair Representation of Series
That would have been a tense evening in the dressing room, for skipper Shubman Gill, coach Gautam Gambhir, and the entire team. Speaking exclusively to InsideSport, the playing XI member from that match, Karun Nair opened up on, how the mood was in the dressing room.
Talking on the sidelines of Maharaja Trophy, Karun clarified, that the team always had the self-belief, to pull off a miracle. Of course, the rest is history with Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna delivering the goods, and taking India home, with six runs to spare.
Karun Nair Reveals Dressing Room Mood
“Honestly, the series was a well-fought one between two amazing teams. From our point-of-view, we would have been very disappointed, if we had gone on to lose the series. We were performing at a very good level, and thought we deserved to be closer in terms of the score line,” the 33-year-old batter said.
“To get that 2-2 result, we always had the confidence — that one wicket can change the momentum. It was all about the belief.. the way the bowlers responded, the fight that we showed, that was just great to see,” he added. That victory also ensured that India has lost a Test series to England, home or away, since 2018.
