Ex-SRH star parts ways with Kavya Maran's SA20 franchise, check full list of retained players

Aiden Markram has decided to part ways with SA20 franchise Sunrisers Eastern Cape ahead of the auction which will take place on Sep 9

Lucknow Super Giants batter Aiden Markram has decided to part ways with SA20 team Sunrisers Eastern Cape ahead of the auction later this year. The South African was released by IPL side Sunrisers Hyderabad ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction and was bought by LSG. The next edition of SA20 will get underway from December 26, 2025 onwards and the final will be held just days before the T20 World Cup.

Markram bids goodbye to Sunrisers in SA20

Markram decided to part ways with the two-time SA20 champions and instead enter the auction. Under the captaincy of the Proteas star, Sunrisers Eastern Cape won two successive titles in 2023 and 2024.The SA20 auction for 2026 will be held on September 9.

Markram has played 36 matches for SEC and has amassed 967 runs, averaging 34.53. He has one century and five fifties to his name in SA20 so far.

Retained: Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, Ryan Rickleton, Kagiso Rabada, George Linde, Corbin Bosch

Pre-signing: Nicholas Pooran

2. Sunrisers Eastern Cape

Pre-signing: Jonny Bairstow, AM Ghazanfar, Adam Milne

Retained: Tristan Stubbs

Wild Card: Marco Jansen

3. Johannesburg Super Kings

Retained: Faf du Plessis, Donovan Ferreira

Pre-signing: James Vince, Akeal Hosein

4. Pretoria Capitals

Pre-signing: Andre Russell, Will Jacks, Sherfane Rutherford

5. Paarl Royals

Retentions: Lhuan-de-Pretorius, David Miller, Bjorn Fortuin

Pre-signing: Sikandar Raza, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman

6. Durban Super Giants

Pre-signing: Sunil Narine, Jos Buttler

Retained: Noor Ahmed

Wild Card: Heinrich Klaasen

CSA has decided that the six franchises won’t be able to retain more than 6 players. Therefore, teams will have the chance to fill 72 slots available. This accounts for 63% of the total spots (108). Franchises can pick no more than 7 overseas players and a minimum of 11 South African players.
